Coventry – a city nestled into the heart of the West Midlands, rich in mediaeval history and a diverse culture. Crime Stats in Coventry

As the second biggest city in the West Midlands, Coventry has quite a diverse crime landscape, heavily influenced by its population density, economic conditions, and local policing strategies. Although Coventry actually ranks as the safest city in the entirety of the West Midlands, according to data from CrimeRate, the city still sees its fair share of criminal activity.

In 2023, Coventry’s overall crime rate was 126 crimes per 1,000 people. Keeping in mind that the city has a population of around 450,000, this figure is slightly higher than that of the West Midlands’, which sits at 118 crimes per 1,000 people.

As of this year, Coventry has an overall crime rate that is 24% higher than that of the West Midlands as a whole. When it comes to the crime rate of England, Wales, and Northern Ireland combined, Coventry’s crime rate still sits at 44% higher.

Common Crimes in Coventry

In terms of criminal activity, Coventry ranks poorly for violence and sexual offences. Crimes of this kind are the most common criminal occurences within the city, with 16,323 offences recorded during 2023 alone, giving a crime rate of 51. The good news is that this figure is actually 10% lower than 2022’s figure of 18,163 offences.

The least common crime to occur in the city is bicycle theft, with just 489 offences of this kind recorded during 2023. This was also a decrease from the previous year, going down by 24% from 2022’s figure of 643 crimes.
