How is Crime Data Collected?

Crime rates are based on police reports, government statistics and crime databases. According to the Metropolitan Police, crime data is taken from the Crime Reporting Information System (CRIS) on a monthly basis. Actual crime numbers are shown where possible, but for larger areas, crime rates are used to show the amount of crimes committed per 1,000 people. Public surveys are also carried out to gather information on crimes that may not have been reported to the police.

Strengthening the local community and protecting its most vulnerable members are among Coventry City Council’s key priorities.
